Home Improvement Contractor Law

Registration is Now Open!

Act 132 is new legislation that requires home improvement contractors to register with the state. An extensive definition was written into law, but for practical purposes almost any construction activity in, outside or on a residential property or home (driveway or garage) is covered under the law.

Here are a few basic facts...
  • Contractors must be registered before July 1, 2009
  • Registration fee is $50 & is valid for two years
  • Any contractor doing more than $5,000 in business annually must register
  • Builders who only build new homes are exempt
  • Contractors must carry at least $50,000 worth of both personal injury liability insurance and property damage insurance
