Tell your legislator to vote YES for financial rescue plan

Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass a $700 billion rescue plan aimed at stabilizing the financial markets. To view the final vote results, please click here. PBA and the National Association of Home Builders see this as a major setback to the housing industry and a YES vote on this proposed legislation is a necessity.

The confidence of credit markets around the globe has been severely shaken by investments in mortgages that were made in the U.S. at the height of the housing boom and have since gone bad. The rescue plan would allow the Treasury Department to buy those trouble assets. This would help restore the credit that consumers and small businesses need, and it would end the dangerous downward spiral of falling home prices and rising foreclosures at the center of today’s crisis. If this legislation does not pass, the U.S. economy could head into deep recession.

Thursday, legislators are expected to vote a new proposal. PBA is asking its members to contact their congressmen and senators, urging them to support the rescue legislation when it comes up for a House floor vote later this week. Because of an anticipated Thursday vote, it is essential you call your representative immediately.

Tell them:

1) As a member of the home building industry, you support the bipartisan financial rescue package.
2) Congress must act immediately to craft new legislation that helps restore stability to the economy.
