President's Message

Throughout 2009, the HBA Executive Committee and the Board of Directors have worked successfully to bring the HBA back to our roots and mission as an organization to advocate, educate and provide opportunities for networking within the membership.  I am hopeful that with this strong foundation, we can use 2010 to rebuild the Association and continue to remain focused on protecting our industry and enhancing our membership.  To this end, I realize that as the President of this Association, it is critical to have the support and commitment of every member to participate, recruit new members and advocate for our industry and our Association.

I urge you all to take time to assess your membership with the HBA. The ailing economy has caused us all to evaluate every expense and every allocation of resources and, for some, that translated to limiting time and financial commitments to the HBA. More than likely, if you are reading this, you have committed to maintaining your membership with the Association and I thank you.  But paying your dues is simply not enough! The greatest return on investment for your membership is only realized as a direct result of your involvement and ability to use the resources at the Association to better your understanding of the industry and thereby improve your business.  What does this mean?

Join a committee:

The committee meetings at the HBA are open to all members. You do not need to wait to be asked or invited, just take a look at the calendar on the website (www.hbahomes.com) or in this newsletter (pg.) and plan to attend.  There is truly something for everyone.

Market your company:

We also have a number of ways to market your company through advertising in the newsletter or on the website, sponsoring an event or offering an education seminar.

Participate and Network:

Attend the General Membership Meetings and Education Seminars. We offer a wide variety of events that provide a great environment to learn something new while conducting business and allowing you to socialize and network with your peers.

More importantly, if there is something you would like to see the HBA do now or in the future, let us know.  Please feel free to contact me, any member of our leadership team or the HBA Staff. We are always open to ideas and suggestions to provide greater value.

In 2010, I hope to see a rebuilding of this Association from our foundation. If each of our members makes a commitment to re-engage and dedicate resources to our ongoing efforts, we are sure to reap the benefits as individuals and as an Association. After all, the whole is only as good as the sum of its parts.
